Charles Karriker

Canton - Charles Caldwell Karriker, age 73, of 72 Slow Lane died Saturday, April 17, 2004 at Catawba Medical Center in Hickory.

He was a native of Rowan County and the son of the late Shellie Brown and Katie Bost Karriker. He was married to the late Jean Galliene, who passed away November 25, 1998. He was preceded in death by a brother, Hugh B. Karriker who died April 9, 2004.

He was a United States Air Force Veteran serving from 1947 - 1949 and 1951 - 1955 during the Korean War. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church of Canton from 1953 to present and a member of the church choir. He was a member of Pigeon River Lodge #386 AF&AM which he entered in July, 1957, passed in August 1957 and was raised in October, 1957, and he was past Master. He was an honorary member of the Clyde Lodge #453, the Sonoma Lodge #472 and the Oconee Lodge #427. He was a member of Oasis Temple in Charlotte, Tri-County Shrine Club and past president of the Club. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish rite mason.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Gillett Karriker of Canton; two daughters, Nancy K. Allen of Canton and Suzanne K. Porche of Candler; two step children, Debra Sue Dills of Franklin and Chris Taylor of Clyde; three step-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia K. Sloop of Mooresville and Evelyn K. Ennis of Wallace; three brothers, Hoke P., Paul L. and Dale S. Karriker all of Mooresville.

Funeral services with Masonic rites will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Reverend Carroll Lindsey officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Monday, April 19th at the funeral home. Mr. Karriker will then be at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, NC where funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at Concordia Lutheran Church in China Grove, NC with the Reverend Dr. Larry Bost and the Reverend Ken Reed officiating. Burial will follow at the Concordia Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 21st at the Family Life Center of Concordia Lutheran Church.
