Charles Lance

Charles Calvin Lance, age 73, of Upper Glady Fork Road died Wednesday, September 12, 2007, at his residence. He was a native of Haywood County but had lived in Buncombe County most of his life. He was the son of the late James J. and Lexie Crisp Lance. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James J. Lance, Jr., and Gaston Lance; and a sister, Billie Morgan. He was a graduate of Candler High School and retired from Champion International in 1992 with 39 years of service. Charlie was a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and treasurer for 32 years and held other offices at various times. He enjoyed woodworking and was a United States Army veteran. He was a loving family man and a man of great faith. In addition to his wife of 48 years, Jackie Murray Lance, he is survived by two daughters, Marsha McCoy and her husband, Danny, and Nova Carol Pressley and her husband, Jason, all of Candler; two sons, Charles Calvin Lance Jr., and his wife, Kelly, and Benjamin Nathan Lance all of Candler; a sister, Genevieve Shope of Candler; a brother, Reverend R. H. "Bud" Lance and his wife, Martha, of Candler; nine grandchildren, Fawn Cox, Rae and Joel McCoy, Charles C. Lance, III, Misti and Brian Lance, and Emalee, Natalee, and Jackson Pressley; and a great-grandson, Eli Cox. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2007, at New Hope Baptist Church with the Reverend Walter Gordon and Reverend Ricky Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. At other times, the family will be at the residence. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements.
