Charles Burris

Canton-Charles Lenoir Burris, age 84, of 371 Murray Road, died Thursday, November 20, 2003 at the VA Medical Center in Asheville.

Born in Canton, he was the son of the late Charlie "Doc" and Carrie Kinsland Burris and was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby Burris. He was a member of Springhill Baptist Church and was a United States Air Force veteran of World War II serving as a pilot. Mr. Burris was a member of the DAV. He graduated from Cumberland University, Lebanon, TN with a degree in law and practiced law in Macon, Ga.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mildred Long Burris, one son, Charles L. Burris, Jr. of Candler, 3 grandsons, Fred Burris of Burleson, TX, Charles L. Burris III of Candler and Robert Michael Burris of Macon, GA and 2 great-grandchildren; Cody and Hannah Burris of Burleson, TX.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 23, 2003 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Wayne Willett officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Springhill Baptist Church, 1918 Murray Road, Canton, NC 28716.
