Charles Steppleton

January 11, 1925 — October 2, 2006

Charles Cassius Steppleton, age 81, died Monday, October 2, 2006, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Campton and Bonnie Mae Jamison Steppleton. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Woodrow Steppleton and a nephew, James Larry Steppleton. He was a member of Center Pigeon Baptist Church. Charles loved gospel music and bartering just about anything, particularly guns. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Silver Bluff's caregivers, especially Beth, Denise, Larry, Michael, and Ted. He is survived by a niece, Linda Church and her husband, Brendann, of Waynesville; two nephews, Dale Steppleton and his wife, Carolyn, of Canton and David Steppleton and his wife, Maxine, of Waynesville; two great nephews and four great nieces. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at Center Pigeon Baptist Church with the Reverend Allen Blanton, Reverend R. H. "Bud" Lance and Reverend R. G. Garland officiating. Burial will follow at Center Pigeon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Center Pigeon Baptist Church Mission Fund, 224 Center Pigeon Road, Canton, NC 28716.
