Charles "Richard" Wheeler

Waynesville, Charles "Richard" Wheeler, 82, peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Autumn Care of Waynesville. 

A native of Mississippi, he was a son of the late Raymond and Evelyn Johnson Wheeler.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Gail Hand; and step-father, J.D. Brannen.  Richard was a United States Army veteran, serving during Vietnam.  He also served 12 years in the Navy Reserve with the Seabees.  He was the owner of Air Comfort Heating and Air in Asheville, NC.  Richard enjoyed camping, riding his Gold Wing motorcycle, and volunteering at Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation in Brunswick, Georgia. 

Richard is survived by his wife, Peggy Wheeler; son, David Wheeler (Tammy) of Denver, NC; daughter, Paige Wheeler of Amory, MS; step-son, Brian Harkins; step-daughter, Wendy Harkins; four Grandchildren, Ashley Wheeler Lau (Keenan) of Denver, NC, Caitlyn Lawson Hunt (Alex) of Tupelo, MS, Abby Wheeler Bullock (Landon) of Denver, NC, and Colby Anderson of Amory, MS; and five Great-grandchildren.

Richard will be laid to rest in the Veteran’s section of Greenhill Cemetery.
