Charles R. Wills, age 87, died on Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Charles George VA Medical Center. He was a native of Rock Bridge County, VA and the son of the late Thomas L. and Eva McElroy Wills. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Thomas, Kenneth, Malcolm, and Lebo; and a son-in-law, Phil Garland. He was a member of Plains United Methodist Church where he was very active with the youth groups. Charles was a mason and a shriner for over 50 years and was a former president of the Shrine Club. He was a United States Army veteran serving in World War II where he received a combat infantry badge and won a purple heart for his service in New Guinea under General McArthur. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Holland Wills, two daughters, Sandra Wills Garland and Andrea Wills Jackson (Jimmy); two brothers, Fred L. and J. C. Wills; and three grandchildren, Clayton Garland, Casey Garland, and Jonathan Jackson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Neil Haynes and Reverend Michael Austin officiating. Burial will follow at Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Pigeon River Lodge #386 AF & AM. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Plains United Methodist Church, c/o Maxine Kinsland, P. O.
