Waynesville-Charlie Richard Messer, age 66, of 396 Compromise Drive, died Saturday, November 22, 2003 at his residence. He was a native of Haywood County and was the son of the late Glenn and Bonnie Allman Messer. He was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Richard Messer, Jr., by a sister, Edith Wood, and by a brother, Elmer Messer. He was a member of Dellwood Baptist Church and he collected antique tools. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Agnes Fish Messer, three sons, Robert ''Bob'' Messer and his wife, Vicky of Waynesville, Carl Messer and his wife, Sharon of Clyde, and Daniel Messer and his wife, Tamie of Waynesville; two sisters, Carrie and Glennie Sutton, both of Waynesville; five brothers, Everett, Bill and Hugh Messer, all of Waynesville, Robert Messer of Crabtree, and Lewis Messer of Salem, New Jersey; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at Dellwood Baptist Church. The Reverend Jason Ledford will officiate. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2003 at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services. At other times, the family will be at the residence. The pallbearers will be Lou, Richard and Greg Messer, Terry Haney, Terry Haney, Jr., Burton Smith, James Rathbone, Lonnie Sutton, and Larry Fish. The Jonathan Creek Volunteer Fire Department Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Haywood County Rescue Squad, P.O.
