Charlie Smathers

Clyde-Charlie Crawford Smathers, age 57, of Mulberry Street, died Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Philip and Nellie Conard Smathers. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Bill Smathers. He loved animals and trains and was a great storyteller. He is survived by a son, Charles Edward Smathers; and two sisters, Marie Palmer of Clyde and Mae Whitner of Waynesville; and four nephews. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, December 4, 2004 at Maple Grove Cemetery with Reverend Kevin Valentine officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Homes, and Cremation Services of Waynesville. Serving as pallbearers will be Billy and Doug Cody, Danny Brooks, and Scott Caldwell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville, 296 North Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
