Charlotte Hipps Branson, age 91, died Friday, December 19, 2008, at her residence. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Aliff Plemmons Hipps. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest "Sarg" Branson, who died in 1996. Charlotte was an instructor for the Sheltered Workshop for 12 years. She was a member of Plains United Methodist Church where she was very active. Charlotte was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and the first president of the North Hominy Community Center. Charlotte and Ernest attended the North Carolina State Fair for more than 25 years displaying her crafts which included ceramics, wreaths, and needlework. She was a creative and talented woman and will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by a son, Dale Branson and his wife, Glenda, of Spartanburg, SC; two daughters, Barbara Stamey of Canton and Betty Medlin and her husband, Wallace, of Asheville; a sister, Roma Price of Clyde; a brother, Mark Hipps of MN; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Grandsons and a nephew will be serving as pallbearers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2008, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Michael Austin officiating. Entombment will follow at The Horizon at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
