Charlotte Surrett

Waynesville, Charlotte Martin Surrett, age 74, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2011 at her residence. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, she had resided in Haywood County since 1968. Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Surrett, who died in 2000 and her mother, Mary Elizabeth Martin. She was raised by her grandparents, the late Charles Theodore and Martha Martin and also preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Becky Henderson Surrett, four sisters and one brother. Charlotte enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons, Donald Surrett (Wanda) of Canton, Ronald Surrett (Pat) of Waynesville, and Tommy "Thumb" Surrett (Debra), of Canton; three daughters, Charlene Moore (Phillip) of Franklin, Patty Surrett and her daughter, Taylor, of the home, and Lucy O'hara-White (Steven) of Franklin; aunts and uncles Hildreth Cross of Marriottsville, Maryland, Betty Lou and Donald Cugle, of Baltimore, Maryland, and Bessie Noland of Altoona, Pennsylvania; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 24, 2011 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jeffery King and Reverend Gene Worley officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
