Clara Crawford

Waynesville, Clara Jean Pless Crawford, age 74, of Ironduff Road, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2012 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Bonnie Noland Pless. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Carey Lile Crawford who died in 1960 and son, David Lynn Crawford who died in 2002. She was a 1956 graduate of Waynesville Township High School and attended Blanton's Business College. While at Blanton's, she began working for Jonathan Woody at First Union National Bank. This was the beginning of a banking career that spanned more than 34 years. She retired from the Hazelwood branch of First Union National Bank as Branch Manager. Clara loved to travel and was an excellent cook. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Johnny Nile Crawford; a son, Gary Nile Crawford of Winston-Salem; one sister, Aulby Ferguson, of Waynesville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Steve Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
