Canton-Clara Lou Welch Fish, age 87 of the Cruso community passed away Monday, November 24, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center, after a long, fulfilling life with five generations of family around her.
She was a native of Buncombe County and had resided in Haywood County for 60 years. She was the daughter of the late Pinkney and Hester Harkins Welch and the wife of the late John Hardy Fish, Sr. who died in 1980. Mrs. Fish was also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. She was a dedicated housewife; a loving mother and grandmother who loved to crochet and grow flowers. She was a member of East Fork Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters; Fay Teixeira and her husband Joe of Cruso and Sharon Moore of Waynesville, four sons and their wives; Joe Bob and Carolyn Fish of Canton, Vance and Carolyn Fish of Greenwood, SC, John Wayne and Nellie Fish of Lexington, NC, and John Hardy Fish, Jr. and Nancy of Candler; 10 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at East Fork Baptist Church with the Reverend Matt Pruett and Reverend Jimmy Trantham officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Faye & Joe Teixeira, 14582 Cruso Rd., Canton, NC 28716.
