Clarence John "Chick" Crowder, age 75, of Burnette Circle died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at his residence. A native of Madison County, he was the son of the late Mack and Geraldine Hollifield Crowder. He was also preceded in death by seven brothers, Floyd, Earnest, Paul, Homer, Clyde, Ellis, and Coye Crowder; and two sisters, Estee Ponder and Velda Bryson. He retired from BASF in 1995 with 36 years of service. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Chick was an avid reader and a passionate Atlanta Braves baseball fan. He loved his church and spending quality time with his family. He was a United States Army veteran. In addition to his wife of 26 years, Bernice Williams Crowder; he is survived by two sons, Tim Crowder and his wife, Michelle, of Houston, TX and Jeff Crowder and his wife, Ronna, of Canton; two step daughters, Diane Wells and her husband, Neal, and Sherri Burnette all of Canton; two sisters, Louella Metcalf of Enka and Kodell Maney of Burlington, NC; three grandchildren, Tiffany Deitz, Nicholas Crowder, and Garrett Crowder; a great-grandson, Alexander Deitz; five step grandchildren, Brandon Jenkins, Holly Shaw, Anthony Sorrells, Daniel Sorrells, and Misti Queen; and three step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Bethel Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby and Reverend Roland Jones officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Saturday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
