Clarence Sharpe

April 11, 1941 — February 10, 2010

Waynesville, Clarence Edward "Peanut" Sharpe, age 68, of 46 Unity Drive, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of Oscar H. and Etta Mae Smith Sharpe. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Sharpe Wright, and his second wife, Edith June Parton Sharpe. He was a retired employee of Haywood Community College, where he was a custodian/night watchman. Clarence was of the Baptist faith and embraced his retirement and enjoyed his time off. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was very fun-loving. He is survived by three sons, H. Duane Sharpe and his wife, Jessica, of Waynesville; Darryl Sharpe and his wife, Karen, of Canton, and Dennis Gillette of the Bethel Community; one daughter, Debbie Dyer and her husband, Kenny, of Waynesville; one sister, Katherine Rathbone and her husband, Kenneth, of Clyde; ten grandchildren; and many beloved great grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 15, 2010 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Kathy Ledford and Duane Sharpe officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. on Saturday prior to services and at other times, at the residence. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716 or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058.
