Canton-Claude E. Hampton age 85 of 61 Newfound St. died Sunday, December 14, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
He was the son of the late Bertha Scroggs and Fred B. Hampton. Mr. Hampton was born in Clay County, but had lived in Haywood County most of his life. He retired from Champion International in 1982 with 45 years service, an Army veteran of WWII. member of First United Methodist Church and Pigeon River Lodge No.386 AF&AM.
Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Lois Raulerson Hampton; a brother, Glenn T. Hampton; sister, Willa H. Carswell of Canton; niece, Keitha Alford of Arden, NC; nephew, Tom Hampton of Duluth, Ga.
Graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December, 16, 2003 at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Alice Day officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home in Canton. Memorials may be made to the Canton First United Methodist Church, 29 Newfound St., Canton, NC 28716 or to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565.
