CLAUDE NORMAN

Waynesville-Claude Norman, age 86, of 25 Genoa Lane, died Thursday, November 28, 2002 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Nathan and Mary Watson Norman. He was a truck driver for Allison Oil Company and retired in 1966. He was a member of Grandview Baptist Church where he served as deacon and was on the Building and Grounds Committee. He was also named ''Father of the Year'' as well as ''Deacon of the Year,'' and served as the church treasurer. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Derry, Homer, Henry, Will, and Marion Norman; five sisters, Nora Jackson, Dora Russell Wyatt, Leila Rhinehart, and Mollie and Mattie Warlick.

He is survived by his wife of more than 64 years, Lucille Jones Norman; two sons, Robert Bruce Norman and his wife, Jane, and Michael Douglas Norman and his wife, Dottie, both of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Mickie Norman, Todd Norman, and Tonya N. Woody, all of Waynesville; and four great-grandchildren, Eli Woody, Emily Norman, John Christopher Norman, and Sarah Elizabeth Woody.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2002 at Grandview Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Jack Roberts and Reverend Ted Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at Buchanan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim and Wallace Rogers, Larry Rathbone, Jerry Pace, Dick Chambers, Marvin Downs, Ted Norman, and Leonard Davis. The Reed Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2002 at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
