Claude Phillips

August 9, 1923 — May 25, 2003

Waynesville-Claude Medford Phillips, age 79, of 45 Burma Road, died Sunday, May 25, 2003 at his residence.

He was a native of Haywood County and was the son of the late Jim Medford and Margaret Phillips. He was also preceded in death by a son, Boyd Medford ''Peanut'' Phillips, two sisters, two brothers, and a grandson, Rodney Luther Phillips.

He loved animals, fishing and carpentry.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Iva Lee Sutton Phillips; a daughter, Patricia Lee Waters and her husband, David of Fountain Inn, SC; two sons, Luther Phillips and Donnie Phillips and his wife Lynne, all of Waynesville; five brothers, Charles, Frank, Row, Glenn and Thomas Phillips, all of Waynesville; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes. The Reverend Danny Messer will officiate. Burial will be at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at the funeral home.

The pallbearers will be Tim, Charlie, Patton, Eddie, and Larry Phillips and Teddy Rose.

Memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 262 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
