Rev. Claude Surrett, 88, of Candler, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, October 18, 2014. A native of Madison County, he was the son of the late Lucius and Missouri Trantham Surrett. Claude dedicated himself to his family and the Lord. He led many revivals and pastored many Baptist churches in Buncombe, Yancey, Madison and Haywood counties.
Claude was a loving and devoted husband, dad, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, pastor and friend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Valerie Thelma Grooms Surrett; brothers, Sherman, Pinkney, Robert, Gaye, Wayne and James; sisters, Katherine and Athelene and son-in-law, Mickey Allen.
Surviving are daughter, Judy Lewis-Allen of Candler; son, Gary Surrett and wife Becky of Candler; grandchildren, Josh Lewis and wife Kelia, Megan Lewis Morgan and husband Phillip and Erin Surrett; great grandchildren, Addison, Hailey, Lauren, Milo, David, Samuel and Lucy and several nieces and nephews.
A Home-Going Service will be held at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Faith, Moore Funeral Home at Forest Lawn on Tuesday, October 21st with Rev. Ricky Wolfe of Beulah Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Faith prior to the funeral from 12:45 - 1:45PM. Interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler.
