Clayton L. Mathis, born on January 24, 1943, in Haywood County, North Carolina, passed away on March 22, 2025, at Haywood Regional Medical Center after a long battle with Dementia. He lived a life marked by dedication, passion, and love for his family and interests.

Clayton devoted 36 years of his professional life to Lea Industries before retiring, exemplifying a strong work ethic that resonated throughout his life. He was not just an employee; he was a pillar within the company, recognized for his reliability and commitment.

Beyond his career, Clayton was known for his hobbies, which included tinkering with old cars, trout fishing, and hunting. He also held a special place in his heart for sports, remaining a die-hard Atlanta Falcons football fan, celebrating the highs and enduring the lows that come with such loyalty.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his wife of 62 years, Claudine Arrington Mathis. Together they nurtured their family, which includes their daughter, Tresa Mathis (Scotty), their son, Steve Mathis (Tina); and a daughter-in-law, Paula Mathis. Clayton took immense joy in his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather, cherishing his seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who will forever carry his spirit forward.

Clayton was preceded in death by his father, Ben Mathis, and his mother, Martha Trull Mathis. He is also survived by the memory of his son, Clinton Mathis, alongside two sisters and five brothers, who preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Clayton will be laid to rest in Green Hill Cemetery following the services.
