Clifford Harrell

May 27, 1918 — October 14, 2004

Waynesville-Clifford McCracken Harrell, age 86, of 60 Woolsey Heights, died Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late James S. and Cora Morrow Harrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Harrell and a sister, Mildred Hines. He was a 1935 graduate of Waynesville Township High School and was an army veteran of World War II where he served in the 75th division in the European Theater, having participated in the "Battle of the Bulge." He was a charter member and president of Waynesville Toastmaster Club, a former member of the Waynesville Lions Club, a former scoutmaster, having served on the Daniel Boone Boy Scout Council. He started Harrell's Dry Cleaning and Laundry in 1947 diversifying into uniform rental and carpet and drapery sales and served as director and president of the North Carolina Launderers and Cleaners Association. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville, where he taught Sunday school. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Christine Hogan Harrell; a daughter, Judith Bridges and her husband, Thomas W. of Naperville, IL; a son, Clifford "Mac" Harrell, Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Waynesville; a sister, Bernice Harrell, of Waynesville; three brothers, Leroy and Clarence Harrell, both of Waynesville and Ray Harrell of Hendersonville; three grandchildren, Cliff Harrell III, Joan Larson, and Elise Greene; and three great grandchildren, Cole Larson, and Madeline and Caroline Greene. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2004 at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Reverend Dr. Robert Prince and Reverend Ted Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Entombment will be at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum. Serving as pallbearers will be Bill, Joe, Charles, and Gary Harrell, Tim Stevenson, and Jason Greene. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Waynesville Building Fund, P.O.
