Waynesville, Clursa Elizabeth Moody Messer, age 94, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Care Partners Hospice.
A native of Haywood County she was a daughter of the late Jesse and Algie McElroy Moody. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Ernest Messer, who died in 2007; and granddaughter, Sherri Hill Carson; grandson, David Franklin; three sisters; and six brothers. Clursa was a Pharmacy Technician for Smith Drug Store for 30 years. She was a member of Sulphur Springs Freewill Baptist Church. A devoted wife and mother, Clursa blessed family, friends and even strangers with her cooking.
Clursa is survived by three daughters, Dianne Messer, of Hendersonville; Ernestine Mathis (Eddie) and Sheila Messer (Gary Griffith); son, Jay Messer (Donna), all of Waynesville; sister, Lois Cagle, of Waynesville; brother, James Aster Moody (Artha), of Newport, Tennessee; eight grandchildren, Shirlene Stone, Tanya Mathis, Stephanie Mathis, Jeannie Hill, Nicole Franklin Ross, Melissa Messer, Melinda Jessup, and Sarah Messer; and many beloved great & great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 2021 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Phillip Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at the funeral home.
