Clyde "Fat" James Sharp, age 87, of 304 Hilltop Farm Road, died Thursday, October 27, 2005 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late Sherman and Georgia Denton Sharp. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Helen Stamey Sharp, who passed away only three weeks ago. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Gordon, Clarence "Tinnie", Bruce and Edgar Sharp. He retired in 1980 from Champion International. He was a lifetime member and Past Commander of Canton VFW Post #5198 and also a member of American Legion #47. He umpired softball and coached Little League baseball in Canton during his younger years and was still an avid baseball fan. He is survived by a son, Denver Sharp and his wife, Terry of Canton; a daughter, Cookie Sharp of the home; a brother, Noel Sharp and his wife, Mae of Fredricksburg, VA; three grandchildren, Jackie Sharp Fisher and her husband, Mark of Clemson, SC, Danny Sharp and his wife, Medea and Mike Sharp and his wife, Lynette all of Canton; eight great-grandchildren, James "J. C.", Jacob and Isaac Fisher, Mary Beth, Derick and Zac Sharp, Amber Hill and Tonya Henline; one great-great-granddaughter, Morgan Hill. A graveside memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2005 at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road with the Reverend Scott Murray officiating and military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post #5202. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Canton. At other times, they will be at the home.
