Clyde Smith

June 19, 1954 — April 14, 2012

Clyde, Clyde Dean "Rock" Smith, age 57, of Woodland Church Road, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at MedWest Haywood. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Clyde and Dortha Price Smith and was also preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Smith. He was a plumber employed by Bryan Smith Plumbing for 20 years and was of Baptist faith. Clyde was an avid Tar Heel fan, enjoyed watching sports, NASCAR, and gardening. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Donna Clark Smith; three sons, Joshua and Jacob Smith, of Clyde, and Matthew Wells of Maiden, North Carolina; one sister, Margaret Woody of Waynesville; two brothers, Dwight and Wayne Smith, of Clyde; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Dale Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be David Rathbone, Doug Barnett, Keith Barker, Lee Simonds, Mike Davis, and Bryan Smith. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank Dr. Henry Nathan for his special care. Memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
