Waynesville

Waynesville, Coleen Dale Mintz, age 55, suddenly passed away on Sunday afternoon, August 16, 2020 following a brief illness.

Coleen was born in Texas City, Texas on September 16, 1964 to the late Benjamin and Mildred Crook.  She graduated from LaMarque High School and attended College of the Mainland, both in Texas.  While living in Texas, Coleen took great pride in teaching children at Simms Elementary to read.  She was a leader of the Women’s Missionary Union at College View Baptist Church.

Coleen moved to North Carolina, where her family has lived for multiple generations, the second and final time in 2001.  In Haywood County, she worked at Haywood Regional Hospital, HVO and Walmart.

The love of Coleen’s life was her husband, children and granddaughter.  She enjoyed arts and crafts, trying new things, her dog Denver and family get-togethers.  Coleen was kind-hearted, gentle of spirit and known for her sweet disposition and easy smile and laugh.

Coleen is survived by her husband of 10 years, Chris Mintz; daughters and their partners, Paris Hensley and Chris Hensley, of Waynesville and Amber Burgert and Devan Walton, of Massachusetts; son Jonah Cogburn, of Waynesville; granddaughter, Jade Hensley, of Waynesville; siblings and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth Alonzo, of Texas; Donna and Mark Rahman, of California; Joyce Crook, of Texas, Pam and Harlan Jensen, of Texas, Teri Crook and Julie Crook, both of Waynesville, David Crook, of Clyde and Douglas Crook, of Oklahoma; parents-in-law, Morty and Dorothy Bacon, of Waynesville; 17 nieces and nephews; and many other relatives.

Coleen loved music and nature, especially flowers and dragonflies. In her memory we hope you will buy flowers or a plant for yourself or someone you love or listen to music that will make you happy.

The care of Coleen has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
