Coleman Moody

November 8, 1932 — March 29, 2009

Waynesville, Coleman Delano Moody, age 76, of 350 Allens Creek Road, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late John and Nancy Jordan Moody. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marla Moody Burgess; a sister, Inez Caldwell; and a brother, Roy Moody. He retired from the Waynesville Police Department with more than 32 years service, having served as Police Chief for 12 years. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working in his garden and was a member of Allens Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruth Knight Moody; a daughter, Patricia Moody Rohling of Fort Lawn, SC; a son, Ashley D. Moody and his wife, Karen, of Maggie Valley; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Eddie Deitz and Reverend Ricky Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Buchanan Cemetery with full law enforcement honors. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny and Johnny Moody, Eric McElroy, James Snyder, Joe Rohling, Arthur and Bobby McElrath, and Joe Lizzi. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Allens Creek Baptist Church, 549 Allens Creek Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
