Conard Wines

Clyde - Conard F. Wines passed away after a very brief illness on Monday, March 5 at Park Ridge Hospital in Fletcher, NC. The family will receive friends at Wells Funeral Home in Canton on Thursday, March 8 from 5PM to 7PM. Services will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel at 11AM on Friday, with the minister at Waynesville Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating. Mr. Wines was the son of George & Maybell Wines of the Thickety Community. He was predeceased by both parents, his wife, Willie Ruth Wines, & all his siblings: Deola "Dink" Wines, Shea Wines, Geneva Keylon, Nezbitt Horton & Marjorie Clark. As he often observed shortly before his death, he was "the last of the Thickety Wines Family". During World War II, Mr. Wines served in the US Navy & survived the Normandy Invasion, the largest seaborne invasion in history. Soon after his honorable discharge from World War II, he moved to Miami, Florida & worked for Dade County until his retirement in 1985. At that time, he returned home & continued to farm the same land as his forefathers. Mr. Wines is survived by his children and grandchildren: Bill & David Wines, both of Atlanta Georgia , and Tracy Shuler of Fernandina Beach, Florida & daughter-in-law, Illana Wines of Atlanta; granddaughters, Krystal & Tabitha Shuler, & grandson, Ryker Joseph Wines. Memorial donations may be made to the Waynesville Lion's Club, Inc., 273 North Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28716.
