Conley Ward

Waynesville, Conley Luther Ward, age 79, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Jackson County but had lived in Haywood County most of his life. He was the son of the late Charlie Roosevelt and Minnie Elsie Brown Ward and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Ward, brothers, Carl, Thad and Claude Ward and a sister, Bessie Messer. He was a self-employed auto mechanic and was of the Baptist faith. Conley was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing and especially loved spending time at his mountain cabin. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Polly Messer Ward, one son, David Ward and his wife April of Clyde; one daughter, Lori Beck and her husband Brian of Canton; one sister, Hazel Chambers and her husband Ed of New Jersey; four grandchildren; Josey and Angel Ward, Hannah Beck and Seth Brown; two special nieces, Mary Phillips and Cathy Cardamone; special nephew, Bob Phillips and his wife Peggy and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes. Reverend Jerry Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
