Cora Mann

Waynesville, Cora Evelyn Cates Mann, age 97, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2013 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. Born in Swain County, she had resided most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Ela Moody Cates and Theopolis Alcy Cates, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank F. Mann, who died in 1980; three sisters, Irene Craig, Miranda Mathis and Nettie Coffey; two brothers, J.B. and Thomas Cates; and one grandson, James Mann. Cora was a homemaker and prior to her illness, she was a very active member of Red Bank Baptist Church. She raised one child but had many children. A mother to everybody, she provided food to all who visited her home. She is survived by a son, Jim Mann and his wife, Carolyn, of Asheville; one sister, Uzziel Mathis, of Waynesville; one brother, Reverend T.A. Kates, Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Waynesville; and two grandsons, Jonathan Mann and his wife, Haley, of Waynesville and Gary Mann of Asheville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Don Bryson officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from Noon until 1:45 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Cora's family wishes to acknowledge the excellent care provided by Autumn Care Nursing Home and her special caregiver, Ella Mae Grasty.
