Cornelia Higgins

Canton, Cornelia King Higgins, age 102, passed away Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. She was a native of Yancey County but had resided in Haywood County since 1953. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Estie Anglin King and was also preceded in death by her husband Herbert Higgins who died in 1978 and a daughter, Louise Higgins Reid. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by four sons, Lonnie Higgins, Kenneth Higgins and his wife Sue, Russell Higgins and his wife Darlene, all of Murphy and Emmitt Higgins and his wife Diane of Waynesville; two sisters, Helen Peterson of Cocoa, FL and Liz Hoffman of Asheville, NC; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 19, 2010 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Reverend Phillip Wyatt will officiate. Burial will follow in Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Emmitt and Diane Higgins, 130 Old School Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
