Curtis Scott

Canton - Curtis R. Scott, age 86, of the Beaverdam Community, died Friday, October 19, 2007 at the VA Medical Center. He was a native of Haywood County and had lived in Asheville for 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Minnie Parham Scott; four brothers, Burgin, Robert, Aldin, and Roy Lee Scott; two sisters, Gladys Smith and Grace Scott, and one daughter, Edith Dawn Scott. Curtis was employed by VA Medical Center as a nursing assistant with 20 years of service having retired in 1978. He was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church and loved to listen to gospel and country music. Curtis loved going to Lake Chatuge and fixing old radios. He was a United States Army veteran, having served during World War II, where he was wounded twice and received the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Louise W. Scott; two daughters, Marsha Scott of Greenville, SC, and Janice Scott Gibson and her husband, Steve, of Canton; one son, Terry Scott and his wife, Glenda, of Canton; four sisters, Bessie Robinson and Lucy Best both of Canton, Frankie Smith of Clyde, and Betty Jean Rathbone of Waynesville; two brothers, Ray Scott of Canton and Weaver Scott of Hendersonville; six grandchildren, Melissa Radford, Pam McCarson, Beverly Taylor, Kerry Autry, Cheryl Pate and Philip Scott; and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2007 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jack Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
