Daisy Johnson

April 9, 1911 — July 27, 2008

Waynesville, Daisy Leatherwood Johnson, age 97, of 68 Poplar Holler Road, died on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at Autumn Care. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Cephus and Minnie Carver Leatherwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Grady N. "Hambone" Johnson, who died in January, 2008; two sisters, Lucy Chambers and Sarah Leatherwood; and three brothers, Ray and Joseph Houston and Jack Leatherwood. She retired from Wellco with 35 years service and enjoyed working in her flower garden, cooking, and her cats. She is survived by one daughter, Linda Gail Yarborough of Waynesville; one sister, Selinda Hoyle, of Jacksonville, Florida; one nephew, Robert Leatherwood and his wife, Oma Lou, of Waynesville; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2008 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Ray McCall and Reverend Daryl Hannah officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Rogerson, Steve Hightower, David Smith, Danny Owenby, Robert Reid, and Zach McGuinness. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home, and at other times, the family will be at the home of Linda Yarborough, 68 Yarborough Street, Waynesville.
