Pompano Beach, Florida resident, Dale Vernon Penttinen, age 80, went to be with Jesus on Friday, October 15, 2021, at his Maggie Valley, North Carolina home. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Waukegan, Illinois he was a son of the late John Wilho and Leona Gleeson Penttinen. In addition to his parents and in-laws, Dale was preceded in death by his brother, Lee Penttinen, and Lee’s wife, Gay Penttinen; two half-brothers; two half-sisters; and three brothers-in-law; Kenneth Moore, George Minkler and David East.
Dale attended Lake Forest College in Illinois, served three years in the United States Army and graduated from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. He was a very patriotic person. Dale was a Vice President at First Federal Savings & Loan of Broward, Florida, and was also the longtime owner of Jerry’s Patio Outdoor Furniture Shop in Pompano Beach, Florida. Dale was an active of member of the Exchange Club and Elks Club of Pompano Beach. He was an avid bowler, golfer, softball player, boater and loved traveling by car, airplanes, and cruise ships to USA destinations and overseas lands. He also enjoyed having friends over for gatherings on the outdoor patio of his home. In his retirement years Dale and wife, Jo-Anne, enjoyed their mountain home with the view of the Smoky Mountains in Maggie Valley, North Carolina.
Dale is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jo-Anne Freeman Penttinen; daughter Holly Ann Orr, and her husband, Richard (Ric), and Dale’s pride and joy grandson, Chase Evan Orr of Pompano Beach Florida; two sisters, Patricia Minkler and Janet East; two brothers, Thomas Penttinen (Jane) and Ned Penttinen; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Freeman, Jr. and Frederick Freeman (Sandra); numerous nieces and nephews; and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

The care of Mr. Penttinen has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
