Damon Swanger

Clyde, Damon Stuart Swanger, age 31, went home to Jesus on Thursday, September 15, 2016. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Austin C. Swanger and Kathy Ledford Swanger. He was also preceded in death by Paternal Grandparents, Mark Swanger, Sr. and Faye G. Swanger; Maternal Grandfather Gus Ledford and Great Uncle, Loften Frank Green. Damon went to Waynesville Middle School and played football and wrestled. Graduating from Tuscola High School in 2004, he was an active member with Future Farmers of America serving as an officer and he showed cattle with the 4-H Club. Damon and his wife Katie served as committee members with the N.C. State Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee. Damon was an employee of the Town of Waynesville. He was a former President of the Ole Smoky Antique Tractor Club and was currently serving on the board for the Farm Bureau. Damon was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church. He was a faithful volunteer firefighter with the Junaluska Fire Department and a former volunteer with the Fines Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Damon was a farmer, an excellent antique tractor mechanic, good friend, father and husband. His love and his life belonged to his children and family. In addition to his mother, Kathy, he is survived by his wife of 8 years, Katie Swanger; two daughters, Madison Grace, age 5 and Reagen LeeAnn Swanger, age 2; one son, Hayden Austin Swanger, age 7; maternal grandmother, Faye S. Ledford; brother, Matthew B. Swanger, all of Fines Creek; in-laws, Captain E. F. Rollins, III, and his wife, Terry, of the Iron-Duff Crabtree Community; his uncle, Mark Swanger, and his wife, Susan; his aunt, Reva Hudson, all of Fines Creek; sister-in-law, Victoria B. Rollins, of Waynesville; Brother-in-laws, Everett F. Rollins, IV, and his wife, Lauren, a niece and nephew, of Bryson City, and Christopher A. Rollins, of Charlotte; special friends, Viola Ferguson, Patricia Fricks, Cody and Ashley Worley, Keela and Joe Worley, Jason Griffin and Scott Ledford; and so many various close family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Calvary Road Baptist Church with Reverend John H. Swanger, III, Pastor Mark Golden and Reverend Jimmy Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church cemetery maintenance fund, c/o James Ferguson, 11571 Betsy's Gap Road, Clyde, NC 28721. A college fund for Damon's children will be available in the near future.
