"Beautiful Soul"

Sylva - On Thursday, August 10, 2017, our precious daughter, Danielle "Dani" Elizabeth Ashe, 20, of Sylva, returned to heaven and is at peace with God following a brief stay at Mission Hospital in Asheville surrounded by family.
Dani was born July 23, 1997, the daughter of Randy A. and Dana F. Ashe. She was a 2015 graduate of Haywood Central High School and had participated in volleyball, softball, cheerleading and dance over the years. After high school she lived in Maryville, Tennessee and began working as a Barista for Starbucks. She loved her job, interacting with the public and being able to make people happy with coffee. She continued with Starbucks upon moving back to Asheville in late 2016. She loved, and was loved by, her co-workers as well as her many customers at both locations. Dani had recently begun studies at Asheville Buncombe Community College and had dreams of becoming a psychologist one day.
Dani is remembered fondly for her outgoing personality, great big smile, contagious laughter, kind heart, caring soul and her stunning beauty. Dani had many loves in this world, but she was most passionate about reading and had an enormous collection of books that meant a lot to her. She loved Polaroid cameras, hanging out with her friends, being silly, and her dogs and cat. Golden Oreos, ice cream, Vitamin Water and gummies were always on the grocery list. She loved sitting by a fire pit roasting hot dogs and making smores. She loved music and attending shows. Dani had considered joining the Peace Corps one day hoping to make a difference somehow, somewhere. She wanted to hike parts of the Appalachian Trail as she was born in the mountains and had an appreciation for the beauty of the region. Riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway gave Dani peace, time to reflect and was a favorite spot. She had a beautiful soul, a kind heart, and a wild imagination. We will miss her dearly.
Dani struggled on and off with opiate addiction that started in her mid-teens. She had conquered it and enjoyed clean living for close to 2 years before someone introduced her to heroine earlier this year. She struggled, was in treatment, and she didn't want to die. We share this information openly, regardless of any stigma, as we know Dani would have wanted her story to be told so that she could hopefully save someone from what has happened to her. Anyone who knew Dani knew there was so much more to her than her addiction.
Dani had many friends and family members who loved her, and who continue to cherish the time and memories they shared with her. She is survived and missed by her parents, Dana and Randy Ashe; maternal grandparents Lynn Forrest, John and Marie Forrest; paternal grandmother, Frankie Ashe; aunts and uncles, Lisha Shular, Gary Shular, Wayne Ashe, Jody and Tim Hatcher, Stephen and Magdelana Forrest, Mary and Steve Torda; and many cousins on both sides of her family.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Lake Junaluska Memorial Chapel. Dani's family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship immediately following the memorial service at Susan Todd Lounge.

If you wish to take part in eradicating the opioid epidemic in our country, we encourage you to write your local legislators encouraging stricter punishment for those involved with the selling of these dangerous, deadly drugs.
