Dannie O'Neil

Canton-Dannie LeFaine O'Neil-50, of 140 Sharp Mountain Road, died Sunday, March 2, 2003 at St. Joseph's Coli Critical Care.

He was a native of Haywood County and had lived in Key West, FL for 15 years until 1994. He was the son of Raymond Dexter and Louise Stamey O' Neil. He was a 1975 graduate of Western Carolina University with a B.S. in business administration/hotel and motel management. He was a member of East Fork Baptist Church and was an award winning Orchid grower. The Dan O'Neil Orchid was named after him. He was a member of the Orchid Society in Key West, FL.

He is survived by two sisters, Patricia Blaylock and her husband Phillip of Cruso, Renee Whitmire and her husband Jimmy of Fairview, 2 nephews, Curtis and Brad Blaylock and a niece, Ashley Whitmire.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Matt Pruett officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at 140 Sharp Mountain Road, Canton, NC 28716. Serving as pallbearers will be Phillip Blaylock, Brad Blaylock, Curtis Blaylock, Randy Pope, Mike Sharp and Tracy O'Neil.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Fork Baptist Church Van Fund, 13175 Cruso Road, Canton, NC 28716.
