Daphne Smathers

Daphne Queen Smathers, age 95, died on Monday, February 14, 2011, at Hospice of Rockingham County. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late J. Frank and Dora Dalton Queen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. Smathers, who died in 1996. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canton. She is survived by a son, Harold David Smathers and his wife, Jeanie, of Eden, NC; a brother, Robert J. Queen of Hamilton, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Cassandra Therese Winans, Katie Beth Smathers, and Jesse David Smathers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2011, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Danny B. Leonard and Reverend Dustin James officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road.
