Datis Rathbone

Waynesville-Datis Valerie Hicks Noland Rathbone, age 80, of Panther Creek Road, died on Monday, August 8, 2005 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and life-long resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Datis D. and Ella Robinson Hicks. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Benjamin Jackson Noland and her second husband, Mark Rathbone; two sons, Van Noland and Jerry Lynn Noland; a sister, Virgie Hicks; a brother, Riley Hicks; and a grandson, Randy Noland. She was a homemaker and a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church. She is survived by five daughters, Bennie Lance and her husband, Ronald, Judy Noland, Laurie Cagle and her husband, Kerwin, and Mari Allen, all of Waynesville and Linda Rathbone and her husband, Larry, of the Fines Creek Community; four sons, Walter Noland and his wife, Deann, and Jeff Noland and his wife, Kim, all of Clyde, Ben Justice of Asheville, and John Noland and his wife, Marianne, of Cambridge City, IN; one sister, Annie Justice, of Canton; 29 grandchildren; and 34 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2005 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Billy Ferguson, Reverend Tim McConnell, and Reverend Ronald Green officiating. Burial will follow at Lower Fines Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at the funeral home and at other times, at the home of Linda and Larry Rathbone, 200 Piney Ridge Road, in the Fines Creek Community. Serving as pallbearers will be James Rathbone, Trey Henry, Dino Leopard, Kelley Rogers, Damon Swanger, and Josh Trantham. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Lance, Travis Mchaffey, Jesse Keener, and Craig Suggs. Memorials may be made to Fines Creek Volunteer Fire Department, 244 Fines Creek Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
