Waynesville, David D. Garber, age 67, of Georgia Avenue, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2012 at his residence. A native of Fishersville, Virginia, he had resided in Northern Virginia before moving to Haywood County in 1988. He was the son of the late Joseph and Gladys Wimmer Garber. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nada Cooke. David attended numerous Universities and earned two Master Degrees, one in Education and one in Administration. David taught in Arlington, Virginia for 25 years before coming to Waynesville and retired from the Haywood County Schools System as an Art teacher in 2010 after 22 years of service. He enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels, coaching, and announcing various sporting events. David was of Methodist Faith and devoted his life to educating young people for more than 43 years. Mr. Garber was affectionately called Coach, Pops, Poppa G., Mr. G. and Old Dave. He is survived by two sons, Joshua David Garber and his wife, Carrie, of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Jesse Daniel Garber and his wife, Sara, of Charlotte, NC and a sister, Gloria Harris of Virginia. A celebration of David's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Leyton Alan Mears officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012 at the funeral home.
