David Ray Gunter, Sr., age 52, died Monday, February 9, 2009, at Memorial Mission Hospital. He was a native of Madison County and the son of the late Dave and Frances Martin Gunter. He was an 18- year employee with the Town of Canton as a crew leader and an employee of Philips Consumer Electronics for 15 years prior. David enjoyed beekeeping for the past 10 years. He also loved fishing at Fontana Lake, antique car restoration, and working with wood. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Betsy F. Gunter, three sons, David Gunter and his wife, Stephanie, of Canton, Dwight Gunter of Elliston, VA, and Bryan Gunter of Canton; two sisters, Judy Parris and her husband, Everette, of Bryson City and Barbara Wilson of Weaverville; a half-sister Girtha Coffey and her husband, Anderson, of Mars Hill; a brother Dexter Gunter and his wife, Kate, of Greenville, TN; two half-brothers, Junior Gunter and his wife, Ann, of Greenville, TN and Preston Gunter and his wife, Ann, of Brevard; two grandchildren, Shelby and Dakota Gunter; and his mother and father-in-law, James McKay and Josie B. Henson. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Trula Fox; a brother, R. B. Gunter; and three half-brothers, Bruce, Z.G. and Talmadge Gunter. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2009, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Stephen Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Dale Inman, Steve Hipps, David Ray, Sr., Todd Rathbone, Johnny Gibson, Luke Messer, and Charles Coffey. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P. O.
