David Johnson

Maggie Valley, David "Dave" Johnson, age 69, of Laurel Branch Road, died on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Blakely, Georgia, he was the son of the late Grady and Myrtie Belle Hanks Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Johnson. He was a US Navy veteran and served on the USS Saratoga. He was owner/operator of Dave Johnson Construction and a realtor/broker with Realty World for 10 years. Dave was a member and served as deacon at Antioch Baptist Church where he participated with Band of Brothers and was also involved with several church mission trips. He enjoyed lake life with the family and fishing with the grandkids, fellowshipping with friends and serving others with a sweet smile and a twinkle in his eyes. His children and grandchildren have been blessed beyond measure by the sweet time he spent with them, the amazing stories he thrilled them with, the kind words and respect he showed them, but, especially the legacy of loving the Lord and teaching them how to love the Lord with all their hearts. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gail Johnson; one son, Todd Johnson of Asheville; two daughters, Lisa McMahan and her husband, Tim, of Knoxville, TN and Tina Webster and her husband, Michael, of Waynesville; one sister, Latrelle Jones and her husband, Jim, of Rome, GA; three brothers, Tommy Johnson of Philadelphia, MS, Jimmy Johnson and his wife, Suzanne, of Kingsville, TX, and Daniel Johnson and his wife, Judy, of Auburndale, FL; and six grandchildren, Sean Webster and his wife, Bridgette, Nathaniel Webster, Ashlyn Johnson, and Jonah, Abram, and Rachel McMahan. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Antioch Baptist Church with Reverend Heath Davis, Reverend Steve Taylor, and Reverend Chuck Sojack officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Monday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church Missions Fund, 542 Iron Duff Road, Waynesville, NC 28785.
