David Lindon Cabe, age 70, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021, following a brief period of declining health.
David was preceded in death by his parents Ardell and Lucille Cabe of Macon County. David was an unselfish man who gave much and asked for little in return. He was a humble man by nature, but he had no reason to be. David was an accomplished professional and a faithful steward of his family and community; and of Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church, where he served as a board member and church treasurer for 45 years. After a four-decade detour into accounting, David’s lifelong love of the mountains led him full circle to volunteer as a Park Ranger at Clingman’s Dome and Mingus Mill.
In retirement, David lived out his dreams, travelling throughout Europe with his beloved wife; fly fishing the trout streams of The Great Smoky Mountains; indulging his grandchildren, and serving others. David was a board member and food bank volunteer at Haywood Christian Ministries.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Reatha Cabe; two sons, Matthew Cabe (Lindsay), of Morganton and Alex Cabe, of Washington, DC; sister, Carolyn Southard, of Blairsville, Georgia; brother, Edwin Cabe (Joann), of Franklin; grandchildren, Darcy and David Anders Cabe; several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021, at Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Ben Schaeffer and Reverend Mike Shuford officiating. A private graveside service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Ratcliffe Cove Cemetery, where David served as trustee, Attn: Phyllis Ratcliffe, 75 Keller Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
The care of Mr. Cabe has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
