David Lutz

Waynesville, David Stuart Lutz, age 65, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Lenoir, North Carolina, he had resided in Haywood County since 1974. He was the son of the late Stuart F. and Floy Barlow Lutz and was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary E. Lutz. David was a graduate of Lenoir High School and was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College with a degree in accounting. He was a US Army veteran having served during the Vietnam Era. He began his accounting career with Arthur Anderson and Company and came to Waynesville in 1974 where he became a controller of Wellco Enterprises. He saw Wellco through many changes until his retirement as CEO in 2006. David served as Treasurer of the American Red Cross. He was a member and former Chairman of Finance of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. David was dedicated to health and fitness, an avid reader, enjoyed working around his home and yard, and was an animal lover. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda Huntley Lutz, a son, Zachary David Lutz and his wife, Julie, of Candler; one daughter, Toyce Troxler of Winston-Salem; a sister, Faye Lutz Capps of Louisville, Kentucky; and six grandchildren, Brad Rivers of Topsail, NC, Sgt. Amy R. Fussell of Winston-Salem, David and Matthew Troxler of Reidsville, C.J. Rich of Waynesville, and Alexandra Rich of Candler; sister and brother-in-law, Candy and Wayne Ruppe, of Forest City; and numerous nieces and nephews. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
