Waynesville-David McCall Smith, age 55, of 115 Joy Lane, died on Wednesday, February 8, 2007 at Memorial Mission Hospital. A native of Birmingham, AL, he was the son of P.M. and Elizabeth Harsh Smith of Waynesville. David graduated from Myers Park High School in Charlotte and attended Catawba College. He was a member of Vision Impaired Persons (VIP). He owned and operated Country Chairs and Colonial Crafts in the Cruso Community and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 26 years, Deborah Morgan "Debbie" Smith; one daughter, Betsy Anne Smith, a student at UNC Charlotte; one son, Stephen William McCall Smith, of Waynesville; three sisters, Buffy McCane and her husband, Jeff, of Green Valley, AZ, Jan Burkhead and her husband, Mike, of Asheville, and Libby Walton, of Waynesville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Dr. W. Lyn Sorrells and Reverend Dr. George Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:45 p.m. prior to services at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Sam Crawford, Lawrence Braxton, John Balentine, Dr. Al Osbar, Tim Wiley, and Mike Burkhead. Honorary pallbearers will be Grady Wiley, Zack and Alex Tinsley, and David Crawford. Memorials may be made to the agency that greatly assisted him through 11 years of dialysis, the National Kidney Foundation, c/o Davita Dialysis Center, 11 Park Terrace Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
