David Mitchell King

David Mitchell King, a devoted brother and friend, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the Smoky Mountain Health and Rehabilitation Center. 

He was born on September 24, 1945, in Haywood County. David dedicated 35 years of service to Champion Paper Mill in the Boiler Room. His commitment and hard work were evident throughout his career until his well-deserved retirement in 2007. Additionally, David served his country with honor in the U.S. Army, showcasing his patriotism and bravery. Beyond his work life, David found joy in simple pleasures, particularly in caring for his lawn. His meticulous nature and dedication to maintaining a beautiful outdoor space were admirable traits that defined him.

Among those who preceded David in death are his father, Kelly King, his mother, Euphia Robinson King, as well as his brothers Doug and Doyle King. Their memories will be cherished by all who knew them.

David will be deeply missed by his surviving family members and friends. He is survived by his sisters, Karen Burgess (Phil) of Canton, Keitha Oldham of Canton, and Kathy King of Canton; along with his brother Donald King of Newnan, Georgia; and sister-in-law, Wanda King of Canton. David also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will carry on his legacy with love and fondness.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Ryan Jacobson officiating.  Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery in Canton.  Serving as pallbearers will be Stephen Burgess, Brandon Burgess, Kelly Burgess, Kane Franklin, Calvin King and Phil Burgess.

The care of Mr. King has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
