Clyde-David Paul Sherrill, age 18, of 196 Gatewood Drive, died on March 31, 2006. He was born in Savannah, Georgia and was preceded in death by his stepfather, David White. He was a member of Long's Chapel United Methodist Church, where he participated in the Youth Group and the Drama Ministry. He was captain of the Tuscola Varsity Baseball Team in 2005 - 2006 and was a starting pitcher. He was voted Most Valuable Player and All Conference in 2005. He was a member of the Outlaws Traveling Baseball Team and played in the NC 2005 Senior Games in Raleigh. He was an avid Boston Red Sock fan. He was also an active member of Future Teachers of America and had received a baseball scholarship at Erskin College in SC. He is survived by his mother, Sherry M. White; a brother, Larry Allen White, of the home; maternal grandparents, David and Barbara Moody, of Lake Junaluska; maternal great grandmother, Anna Moody, also of Lake Junaluska; paternal grandfather, Paul Sherrill, of Waynesville; uncles Chuck Moody and wife, Kim, of Clyde, Clif Moody and wife, Trish, of Charlotte, and Tony Sherrill and wife, Jackie, of Clyde; and cousins, Courtney, Nicholas and Hope. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2006 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Robert E. Fuquay, Jr. and Reverend Josh Pearman officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville, and at other times, the family will be at the home of David's grandparents, David and Barbara Moody, 15 Moody View Drive, Lake Junaluska. Tuscola Varsity Baseball Team will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be given to Long's Chapel UMC Youth Group, P.O. Box 459, Lake Junaluska, NC 28745, Mountaineer Little League, c/o Roger Hampton, 123 Duckett Road, Waynesville, NC 28786, or Tuscola High School Baseball Program, 564 Tuscola School Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
