Dean Williams

March 16, 1948 — September 6, 2014

Dean Elizabeth Laney Williams, age 66, of the Morning Star community, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at her residence. A native of Haywood County and a prior resident of Newport News, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Garland France and Katie Lou Pope Laney. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Linda Voliva and a brother-in-law, Roy Voliva. She was a member of Morning Star United Methodist Church. Dean was a special lady with many talents. She was a very hard worker and always selflessly provided for her family and for others. Dean was especially talented with crafts and enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and sewing. Many times Dean would spend years working on a sewing project or gift for her family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time in her flower and vegetable garden and canned the fruits of her labor. Above all she loved the Lord and will be remembered for the devotion to her family. She is survived by a daughter, Julie Stevens and her husband, Tim, of Canton; a son, Waylon D. Locklear and his wife, Rachel, of Cape Coral, Florida; two brothers, Donald Laney and his wife, Gloria, of Charlotte and Larry Laney and his wife, Judy of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Daniel Doug and Brandon Stevens and Lucas Dean and Thomas Waylon Locklear; and several cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of special friends. A remembrance service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday September 13, 2014 at the residence, 326 Abbott Road, Canton followed by a celebration of life gathering at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morning Star United Methodist Church, 2535 Dutch Cove Road, Canton, NC 28716 or to a charity of one's choice.
