Debra Gosnell Stroupe

Debra "Debbie" Gosnell Stroupe, a beloved figure in her community and a cherished mother, passed away on January 14, 2025, at the home of her daughter surrounded by her family at the age of 64. She was born on July 8, 1960, in Buncombe County, North Carolina to the late Conley and Pearl Johnston Gosnell.

Debbie dedicated her career to shaping young minds as a teacher's assistant at Candler Elementary School. Her devotion to education was paralleled by her commitment to her faith, as she also served as a custodian for Ridgeway Baptist Church, where she was a faithful lifelong member. Her active involvement in church life included being a member of the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) and teaching Sunday School, exemplifying her nurturing spirit and her desire to give back to her community.

Those who knew Debbie would describe her as always happy and smiling, even in times of concern for others—an aspect of her personality that endeared her to many. She formed strong bonds with both her school family at Candler Elementary and her church family at Ridgeway Baptist Church. Above all, Debbie was a devoted mother, and her two twin daughters, Jessica Stroupe and Misty Santiago (Dave), both of Kannapolis, were the center of her universe. Every decision she made was grounded in their well-being, showcasing the depth of her love and commitment to her family.

In addition to her daughters, Debbie is survived by her brother, Eddie Gosnell (Peggy) of Asheville, and five cherished furchildren: Miles, Bear, Cooper, Chloe, and Lola. Her legacy will carry on through them, reflecting her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joe Stroupe, who passed away in 2002; and her brothers, Bobby and Charles Gosnell.
