Dee Cole

November 28, 1936 — October 9, 2010

Canton, Deevel (Dee) Haynes Cole, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at his residence. Dee was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the son of the late Ralph and Nell Parker Cole. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Marshall Cole; a sister, Dean Watts; and a son-in-law, David Glance. Dee was a 1957 Canton High School graduate and a cheerleader. He was a United States Army Veteran and an employee of Champion Papers with 34 years service. Dee was a member of the Canton Kiwanis Club, coached Little League, and Sr. Little League Baseball. Dee was a dedicated and loyal fan of Pisgah football and was a lifelong member of Plains United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Wanda Case Cole; a son, Retired Major Robert Dee Cole and his wife, Judy, of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; a daughter, Rhonda Cole Schandevel and her husband, Jeff, of Canton; sister, Vera Lee Warren of Canton; four brothers, Gene Cole and his wife, Jean, of Canton, Carroll Cole and his wife, Violet, of Canton, twin brother, Dan Cole and his wife, Norma, of Canton, and Bob Cole and his wife, Theresa, of Candler; three grandchildren, Canie Glance, Michael Cole and his wife, Nancy, of Jackson Springs, NC; Matt Cole and his wife, Jen, of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; and two great grandchildren, Cameron Cole and Dalton Cole of Jackson Spring, NC. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Mike Austin, and Reverend Kelley Jones officiating. Dr. Ernest H. Stines will deliver a Eulogy. Burial will follow in Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Moore, Jerry Walker, Earl (Sonny) Williams, Jerry Raxter, Mike and Matt Cole, Scotty, John Austin and Seth Chambers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorial may be made to ARC of Haywood County, 407 Welch Street, Waynesville, NC 28786 or Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice
