Dee Wilson

Canton - Dee Jasper "Dick" Wilson, age 92, passed away on May 5, 2016 at Arrowhead Cove in Canton.

He was born in Piedmont, South Carolina on January 9, 1924 to the late Lennie Otis and Lula Nicholson Wilson. He was preceded in death by six brothers and 2 sisters. He was reared from infancy by his late aunt, Mrs. Florence W. Burnett of Canton. He was preceded in death by his foster siblings Genevieve B. Roberts, Joe L. Burnette, Daisy B. Hurley, Gertrude B. Campbell, Lucille B. Conder and Jesse Albert Burnette.

Upon graduation from Canton High School, Mr. Wilson attended Asheville Biltmore College before joining the Army Air Corp in 1942 during World War II, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant receiving his pilot wings in March 1944. He served as a flight instructor on AT6 aircraft at Cochran Field in Georgia. Following discharge in 1945 he attained the rank of Captain in the Air Force Reserve.

He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1942 with a degree in Industrial Management and worked at American Enka as an engineer prior to joining Square D Company's start-up team in 1961. He retired as Plant Engineer in 1986 with twenty-five years of service.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his daughter, Susan L. Wilson of Canton, and his son, Gary T. Wilson and his wife, Keva, of Sharpsburg, GA; two granddaughters, Lauren Nelms and Haley Evans; and three great grandchildren, Eli, Ila and Aaron; and numerous cousins.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, May 14 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler.

The family would like to acknowledge a special thank you to the nurses and caregivers at Arrowhead Cove for the care and support you provided.
