Delmer Pressley

August 1, 1934 — July 4, 2005

Delmer Dennis Pressley, age 70, of 195 Center Pigeon Road died Monday, July 4, 2005 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late Dennis Pressley and Veldia Shipman Pressley Biddix. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Hubert A. Pressley. He was a member of Crestview Baptist Church and a former employee of American Enka Corporation, a self-employed trucker for 30 years, as well as owner-operator of Pressley Upholstery. He was also a member of the Pisgah Camping Club, a kind and gentle man, who loved his family and was a friend to many. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving during the Korean and Vietnam era while serving as a gunners mate on the USS Taylor while stationed in Pearl Harbor, HI. In addition to his wife of 48 years, Barbara Burnett Pressley, he is survived by two sons, Dennis Allan Pressley and his wife, Rhonda of Canton and Ronald D. Pressley and his wife, Shirley of Clyde; a sister Edie Pressley Dixon of Concord;; six grandchildren, Erin, David, and Paul Pressley and Misty, Amber and Sandy Poss; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Ella Pressley; a sister-in-law, Julie Pressley of Glendale, AZ.; a step father, Frank Biddix of Candler, two step brothers and a step sister. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005 at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with the Reverend Jerry Ensley officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon - 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence. Pallbearers will be Paul Pressley, David Pressley, Tom Riddle, Doug Stinelle, Kenneth Pressley, R. L. Shipman, Kelley Warren, Scott Dixon and Patrick Dixon. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Men's Sunday School Class and ushers of Crestview Baptist Church, his many trucking friends and long-time friend, Lester Lanning. Memorials may be made to Crestview Baptist Church, 3258 Pisgah Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
